Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

Cutting Edge EDMR Trauma Therapy

Integrative psychotherapy approach with extensive research

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma, anxiety disorders and addictions. EMDR is a form of psychotherapy in which the person being treated is asked to recall distressing images while generating one type of bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements or hand tapping.

EMDR is heavily evidence based and is included in several guidelines for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). At Clarity EMDR is usually delivered as part of extended treatments in collaboration with Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

What to expect with EMDR at Clarity

At Clarity we offer EMDR to you if you are staying a minimum of 90 days. Clients accessing Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural therapy (TF- CBT) and EMDR start attending trauma groups/lectures after completion of the mainstream enhanced CBT programme (week 8).

At the end of the enhanced CBT programme Clients are assessed for psychological resilience and upon acceptance the allocated primary counsellor will normally switch to an EMDR trained therapist. All TF- CBT groups take place during the first group session of the day so they do not impact their CBT treatment programme. This means you are able to have trauma therapy at the same time as taking part in CBT group treatment.
